First Adult Visit

Just like you keep regular appointments with other types of doctors, it’s important to have a dentist who you regularly see. At your first appointment at Hull and Appel Family Dentistry, we’ll perform a comprehensive exam to learn more about you and your individual smile and you’ll have a thorough cleaning done by one of our hygienists.

At your first visit you’ll receive a deep cleaning. Even if you are diligent about your oral hygiene, we’ll be able to provide a more thorough cleaning than your typical day-to- day routine and remove most stains to make your smile shine.

One of our dentists will chat with you about your medical history to become familiar with any previous concerns that may affect your oral health. They’ll take your blood pressure and examine your head and neck. We will also take intraoral and extraoral X- rays to get a closer look at the internal structures of your teeth, jawbone, and facial features.

We’ll also provide a tooth-by-tooth examination to get a good look at your oral health. Even if you have been visiting another dentist regularly, we want to become familiar with your teeth to make sure we’re providing the best care possible. Our dentists will look at your gums to make sure they are healthy, and will check the positioning of your teeth to make sure they’re not crowding each other or shifting out of proper position. If teeth are not fitting together properly, this could affect your bite. Another important part of the examination is making sure there is no tooth decay; Dr. Appel, Dr. Caton, or Dr. McGlumphy will use a small mirror to look at the backsides of your teeth, and will use a special tool to check the density of your teeth. A tooth that is beginning to decay is softer than a healthy tooth. This comprehensive examination will help us catch any potential concerns in your oral health before they become more serious.

After your first visit, we recommend that you come back every 6 months. We hope your first visit to us is just the beginning of a team effort between us to keep your smile beautiful and healthy for the rest of your life.
